CONDUCT

Please see the list of expectations of this classroom. These expectations are aligned with school policy and best practices for education. These rules will be consistently and fairly applied to all students in this classroom. No exceptions.

Cell phones and electronic devices

Let me keep this simple: DO NOT BRING THEM INTO THIS CLASSROOM. If you do, you are risking facing detention and losing your phone for the entirety of the day. It is not WORTH it. I PROMISE.

Dress code

Please refer to your student handbook for specific guidelines. I will not permit students violating the dress code to enter the classroom. Students will then have to report directly to the main office and face disciplinary consequences as seen fit of the infraction. As a student teacher, I worked at a school where all students wore the same dress shirt and khaki pants - tossing them out of class annoyed me as much as it annoyed them. Let's work together to follow these simple rules. And hey, I'll even refrain from dying my hair purple after Northwestern football wins this fall.

Inappropriate language

We are modeling a professional environment in this school. Please be aware that you should be speaking respectfully (as you would in a workplace or at an interview). If I hear any innappropriate language, I take that as a direct criticism of the community we are building in this classroom.

Cleanliness

Schools are full of people so they are naturally full of germs. It is our responsibility as a community to take pride in the health and maintenance of our school. While this school's custodial staff does an amazing job keeping this historic building looking its best, you and I also must pick up our trash, avoid using chewing gum, and respecting school supplies like desks, lockers, and walls. Failure to respect YOUR school will result in reports to the main office and student deans. LET'S KEEP THIS PLACE NICE PEOPLE! THE DESKS ARE NEW. DEFACING THEM WILL RESULT IN THREE DAYS DETENTION.
